According to this report, number of people remain homeless increased to 101,923 from 70,975 and the number of houses completely destroyed increased to 20,380 houses 15,000 with a total of at least 260,000 people and 52,000 households affected. Approximately 17,500 acres of agricultural lands and nearly 50,000 acres of aquaculture ponds were also destroyed.
The damages to infrastructure were extensive and severe. Without international support, local communities won't be able to rebuild these damaged infrastructure. If this goes on, lives of many children in this region would went astray because there is no school to go to, lives of many patients would be wasted because there is no health center to get emergency treatment.
OCHA's report stated that the Australian Government has provided AUD 200,000 for immediate Cyclone GIRI relief to to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
This is clearly not enough.
We need more international support to rebuild those communities destroyed by the Cyclone Giri.
